Mauro Libi: Improve your emotional intelligence at work in four steps

     


Relationships in organizations are very important and for a correct management of them, emotional intelligence is fundamental because it facilitates more empathy between the staff that makes up the companies and enterprises. The connection with other co-workers and the relationships can be made more profitable, honest and sincere because there is identification between them, which leads to every worker being able to help others by having the ability to put themselves in their shoes and, therefore, know how to act accordingly.

     When a worker acquires the ability to read the emotions of his partners, the relationships acquire a new dimension and increase the commitment with the staff. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and there are conflicts between employees, the work environments are not the right ones, there are tyrant bosses and envy between workers, which end up affecting business health. Emotional intelligence can make great contributions to the transformation of relationships at work by providing greater and better benefits than any technical competence. It is proven that a high emotional percentage to improve relationships reduces stress, increases happiness and health.

     Similarly, it was shown that emotional intelligence is the greatest predictor of performance, which represents 58 percent of success at work. How to improve your emotional intelligence? Here are four keys:

1.      Identify and accept your emotions and the others:

·         This favors empathy among workers.
·         Not understanding others' feelings may lead to inappropriate comments or misconduct.
·         It is necessary to connect with themselves because it will be impossible to know the emotions of others if you don’t identify and handle your own.
·         As an exercise, create an emotional journal recording your emotions and the reason why you feel them.
·         Try to be as concrete as possible.
·         You will see how you will begin to identify your emotions more easily.

2.      Talk about what you feel:

·         Don’t be afraid to express your feelings.
·         This is very important because it is scientifically proven that emotions are contagious, so express your affections towards others without fear.
·         A kind phrase will always be welcomed and will help you to make relationships and environments more pleasant.

3. Learn to listen without judging:

·         Don’t put the emotions and situations of others in question
·         Avoid the error of toxic people who all the times try to see the bad side of things to criticize and judge.
·         Listen to others without making judgments, simply trying to identify what you feel and what triggered it, always with the purpose to help to improve the situation in the case of negative emotions.

3.      Express with your body what your heart feels:

·         Master the language of your body and express in a physical way your affection for others and your willingness to help.

·         Supporting will always be a way of telling the other that is not alone.
