How many times have you
heard about some rich guy or some company coming into a neighborhood and
donating a lot of money? Everyone celebrates the donation and has high hopes
for how this will turn around the poverty and crime and low employment in this
particular community. A few months later, the community and the people living
in it are in the exact same situation and then nothing has changed. The donation
money is unaccounted for and it seems like the situation will never change.
Then came about the concept
of share value initiative. Instead of donating money to the community. A group
of professionals and businesses and organizations get together and they pool
their expertise in solving the problems of this community. Educators come into
the school system and they work with the schools. Job counselors come into the
community and train many of the unemployed to be job ready. Businesses come
into the community and open up that offer jobs and bring up the standard in the
community. Together, this group of professionals work on solving crime,
pollution, lack of jobs, poor education, the list goes on and on. What one
business could not accomplish with it's money, can be accomplished by this new
concept called share value initiative. This concept believes that
together we can solve problems that we always believed were not solvable.
