Mauro Libi Crestani: Business and worker productivity

By Mauro Libi Crestani. Business owners looking for ways to improve worker productivity.  Employers keep in mind that  an employee’s positive attitude will have a positive impact on productivity, while the reverse is also true. Whether you are dealing with change initiatives, teamwork, innovation or  turnover your employees attitude will show marked differences.

For any company to survive it must adapt to the changing environment. The changes may be needed because of an advancing technological field or to may be due to a changing economy. When change becomes necessary, employees who display a positive attitude toward change may welcome and even embrace it, as they may view it as a chance to enhance their skills. 80% of change initiatives in companies fail because the attitudes of the employees do not allow them to adapt.  Not only will employees with positive attitudes be more willing to accept change , they are more likely to make helpful suggestions or ideas that help the business grow. On the other hand, workers with a negative attitude may only be concerned with producing enough to get by while having little interest in innovation. Mauro Libi Crestani

So it should be no surprise that employers look for people with positive attitudes while interviewing. So going into the interview with certain personality traits  that will always give the candidate a leg up against the competition. Certain positive traits that let the employer know that you may be that positive find that is hard to find. Mauro Libi Crestani

Be friendly, it is surprising  how many people who interview who are just not personable. If your interviewer don’t enjoy talking to you for a mere 30 minute interview, why would he hire you to join their company? If he does not find you charming, neither will his clients and you will not get that job, learn to turn up the charm.

Adapt to the situation. If your interviewer is dry and serious, it is best to stick strictly to the business matter. If your interviewer is friendly and outgoing, you may use a little humor and littler stories in a professional manner. Your interviewer is looking to determine how well you will adapt to his different customers. Mauro Libi Crestani

Be positive, enthusiastic and confident. If you do not believe that you are the best candidate for the job, neither will your interviewer and he can read you. They are also looking for a certain energy, a willingness to go the extra mile. Most employers as they interview have a general belief that positive attitude and a high energy person will result in a higher performance and productivity  levels. Mauro Libi Crestani

A positive attitude will put you in a better position to get a high quality job and once you have that job, your attitude can get you promoted and achieve higher sales.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Customers make purchasing decisions because they have carefully considered a set of good information, right?

Wrong.

By Mauro Libi Crestani. Buying decisions are always the result of a change in the customer's emotional state. While information may help change that emotional state, it's the emotion that's important, not the information.

Our emotions trigger us to buy. Don't make the mistake thinking that people buy what they need. People buy what they want. Needs are driven by logic while wants are driven by emotions.

If you figure out the key to how to appeal to a customers wants  then you can find more eager customers.

This is all about………  ‘Positive Marketing.’

You have to create a positive customer attitude toward your product.

The $200 pair of  jeans that you are selling has to be the one that teens find appealing. They could easily let their mom pick out a $15 pair of jeans, but that is not what they want and their wants dictate their needs and therefore it is not what they will buy.

Does your marketing give off a positive appeal to your target customers and create a positive want. A desire so strong that they have to have it.  Like the sports car commercial or ad showing that beautiful young girl, that your midlife male customers want to attract with his purchase of this fancy sports car.

Don't mistake your market for "everyone who needs your product". You will waste time and money trying to convince people who need your product to want it. The best target market for you is people who want your product. They may or may not need it. As long as they want it they might buy it from you. Consider what you bought lately that you did not need but you wanted.

You might feel that you need a glass of wine, a shot of scotch or a beer at the end of a tough day - but the reality is that you want it. We all need to eat - but no one needs a Sirloin steak, deep-dish pizza or Black Forest cake. We eat those things because we want them.

Come up with a positive message appealing to the wants of your customers. To their desires and their wishes and their dreams. Make them understand that if they buy from you, it will make them happier that they did so. Keep in mind the following question ----- Why do we buy? We buy because of emotional wants. You will be more successful when you market and sell to the emotional wants of your prospects by Mauro Libi Crestani.

Mauro Libi Crestani: ¿ Positive depressión ?

By Mauro Libi Crestani- "I only know that summer sang in me a little while, that in me sings no more." That excerpt from one of her sonnets expresses how much poet Edna St. Vincent Millay  probably knew of depression.

Psychiatrist Kay Redfield Jamison, herself a person with bipolar disorder or manic depression, notes in her book ‘Touched with Fire’  that the majority of people suffering from mood disorder "do not possess extraordinary imagination, and most accomplished artists do not suffer from recurring mood swings."

She writes, "To assume, then, that such diseases usually promote artistic talent wrongly reinforces simplistic notions of the 'mad genius.' But, it seems that these diseases can sometimes enhance or otherwise contribute to creativity in some people. Biographical studies of earlier generations of artists and writers also show consistently high rates of suicide, depression and manic-depression."

In simple terms, there may be some poets, some writers and other great genius who are very depressed and can still be creative. President Abraham Lincoln was such a person. He had bouts of manic depression and he was very creative in his speeches, in his thinking. But the fact is that some people can still remain positive despite having depression. They are the exceptions. Abraham Lincoln was such an exception.  Besides, their quality of life very poor. Even the ones who are depressed that can still maintain creativity , they do not know how to enjoy life.

Being successful in your career is of no value if you can not enjoy life. But like I said, most people with depression lose their creativity. Marie osmond sumed it up best, "I'm collapsed in a pile of shoes on my closet floor. I have no memory of what it feels like to be happy. I sit with my knees pulled up to my chest. It's not that I want to be still. I am numb." This is what depression usually does. It takes away your ability to be of any value business wise, family wise and to have a personal life. Doctors think the combination of short-term treatment with medications plus the long-term use of positive thinking  might reduce depressive symptoms.  Mauro LibiCrestani.

“Brain scans have shown that positive thinking stimulates the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which regulates the relationship between mood and thought.. A positive mental attitude may also influence the brain’s reward system, which involves the chemical dopamine, helping to restore a sense of pleasure that’s often lost with depression” ,Dr. Doraiswamy says.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Pessimism can lead to hopelessness and failure

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.” Henry ford believed in the power of positive thinking. He believed that your thinking and your attitude affected the outcome. if you had negative thinking and did not believe that you would succeed then you would end off in failure. When you think positively, you will almost always find more solutions. When you are optimistic, you believe there is a solution to be found, and you free your mind to devise those solutions. Pessimism can lead to hopelessness and failure.

“Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain”   was another quote from Henry Ford. When Henry Ford wanted to start his automobile company he met with at least two failures and he lost his investors. They had lost their faith in him, but he did not lose his faith in himself. He had learned from his mistakes and was on his way to amazing success. “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.” , said Henry Ford.. Henry said that his early failures were a blessing. He learned from them, he learned things that he would not have looked for had it not been for his failures.

"In fact, it is a curse to have everything go right on your first attempt." What  a different attitude this quote from Mr Ford expressed than most of us have towards failure. His lesson was not to get overconfident, learn from your mistakes, and as long as you learn they are just a tool toward your final successful goal.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Being positive and have a positive attitude

Some things are just a bad idea and were not meant to be. Being positive and having a positive attitude and positive thinking does not mean that you believe that every idea that you ever will have is a correct one. Some times having confidence in yourself means that you know when to quite. It is being self assured and strong enough to quit when you have failed at a task.

Sony technologies, we all will agree is a very successful company. Akio Morita, who was the founder of Sony knew that he would succeed. He started his company making a rice cooker, that was terrible, It burned the rice and was a total failure. He gave up on this idea quickly and admitted his mistake. Never be afraid to cut your losses and move on from an objectively bad idea or situation. Have the confidence that a bad idea or several bad ideas or failures does not make you a failure. A positive person moves on and learns from his mistakes to eventually find his win. Akio Morita had a saying, "If you never had a failure then you never tried anything new."

Successful people like Akio Morita and the Sony company did not look at failure more than anything but a stepping stone to success. They knew that they would succeed even when they failed. That first failure did not stop him from building a multi billion dollar company.

Akio was very positive, you had to be a positive person to make the following statement about his companies new products, "It had to be something different, something that nobody else was making." The company had the belief that even when something was impossible and everyone told you that it was impossible, that you had to be so positive that you knew otherwise.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Colonel Sanders' exemple of positive attitude

At the age of ten Colonel Sanders was fired from a job and told by his boss,"Your not worth a doggone boy". Back then, the belief was that telling s child the truth about how inadequate they were would give them incentive to settle for a lesser job or skill, which matched their lack of a talent. His mother would tell him,"I am afraid that you are just no good. I guess I will never be able to count on you".

For most of his life, the Colonel worked low skilled jobs. He never believed that he could amount to much. He even had one job where he cleaned cigaret ashtrays. At the age of sixty five he worked twelve hours a day pumping gas. But his perception changed. He would eat fried chicken at restaurants and it always tastes like toothpaste to him. He believed that he had the best recipe. He believed that he had what it took to sell the most and best fried chicken he believed in himself. He developed a very positive attitude.

It was not easy. He went to 1009 restaurants and everyone one said "NO!" to his recipe. A few years later he sold his stores for two million dollars. That was seventy years ago.
"Don't quite at sixty five. Maybe your boat hasn't come in yet, mine didn't".  That was a quote from Colonel Sanders. He was broke at sixty five but he had a positive attitude and as a result his life changed.

Mauro Libi: Positive thinking is the best gift one can give themselves

There is a children's story that has been around since I was a child, it is called , 'The little train that could'. The story is about a little toy train that wanted to be like the huge locomotive commercial engines. One day, the big train broke and the little toy train pulled the load of the big train. All the time the little train said,' I think I can, I think I can'.

This children's story is a great lesson in the power of Positive Thinking. If we believe we can make it happen.

I do not want to be the bearer of bad news, especially in an article on positive thinking but we can not do everything we want just because we believe that we can. Abraham Lincoln was famous for saying ,"All men are created equal". Well, no disrespect to President Lincoln but all men are not created equal.  Some of us have the talent to be a great doctor, some have the talent to be the greatest swimmer of our times. If you have no athletic ability, wanting to play for the NBA with all the best of thinking and attitude will not get you a contract.

Now do not get me wrong. Positive thinking  is the best gift one can give themselves. But you have to be realistic and positive at the same time. With positive thinking, you can follow the navy saying ,'Be all you can be'. You can be the greatest that ever existed with the talents that you have. If you look at successful people, they are so full of positive thought. Mohammed Ali, used to tell everyone , ' I am the greatest'. Donald Trump also tells everyone and himself what a winner he is. I once read in a book on becoming a U.S. President and the candidate running for president was told that he could only help the country if he believed that he was the only one capable of doing the job. Find your talent and be the best.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Share value initiative changed companies purpose

A long time ago, I took a marketing course where the topic was image. The concept was that it was not the product but the image that sold. They gave us an example of a Wendi's commercial. In this commercial you saw a family eating burgers at Wendi's and they kept wiping their mouths with napkins. The commercial ended by saying that Wendi had the juiciest burger in town. The commercial was a big hit and people wanted the juicier burger. The true fact was that Wendi cut chunks of fat into their meat and that was why it was juicier. It was mostly melted fat. Imagine if Wendi had said the truth. That they sell the most unhealthiest burger with chunks of fat in it. Nobody would buy it. But that was how business was done thirty years ago. It was all about profit. The health of the public didn't matter to corporate America.

Then came along the concept of sharedvalueinitiative. That is where companies look at their purpose differently. With shared value the concept is if you do what is in the community interest and for their well being then you will gain also. Wendi started to look to make their meals healthier. They hired registered dietitians. Their menu now includes salads, diet coke, unsweetened ice tea. They let you know the number of calories in each item. Their burger is 100% pure beef. Their cheese burger is only 300 calories. Now Wendi talks about fat/ lean ratio. Wendi has put in a major effort to offer healthy nutritious menus for its customers.

Mauro Libi: One second is the difference between success and failure.

Libi: I love baseball. I love going to the stadium. Picture this scenario. The bases are loaded and its the ninth inning. There are two outs. Your team is down by one run. The pitched ball is thrown to the batter and you hit the ball and it goes 390 feet. It looks like a home run. Your team is going to win the game. Suddenly a gust of wind blows the ball one inch into the foul zone, one inch flying past the poll in the foul side. One inch to the right and your team would have won the game. But it went one inch to the other side of the pole. Success and failure was based on one inch.

In the business world being successful or failing can be noticing and being able to read the market and acting in it. One day longer can change everything. Constantly ideas come across us everyday and we do not even notice. The successful person learns to sensitive to what the market will desire.

There is a story of the Swiss watch market that controlled the watch industry. In their own marketing and research, their own people came out with digital watches in the 1960's. The Swiss watch company didn't want it. They thought people only want watches with moving hands.  They let their own employees go to a Japanese company and sell their digital watch idea. I'm a few years the Swiss watch company that once controlled the watch industry lost almost the whole market.

They had the idea but they could see the future. They let it go. They could have been a great success with this idea, instead they were became a huge failure.

Successful people learn to sense and see the ideas of the future. Helen Keller once said , Libi, " there is nothing as sad, as one who has eyes, but still can not see."

Mauro Libi: Successful people know that everything have to be done with pride

Success can even be seen while driving a highway. I once was driving on the road and came to a toll booth. The man behind the toll booth had music blasting away and he was singing and dancing. He had the biggest smile and wished me a great evening. This surprised me because I actually never  saw a happy person working in a toll booth. To me they looked like coffins, the people in them would be there for hours and just hand out change bored every night. I started to look for him each night when I went through the toll. One night I asked why he was so happy. He told me that life was good and he was celebrating life and his future. A few months later he stopped working in the toll booth. When I asked about his whereabouts. I found out that he got accepted to medical school and started school.

Here was this guy who had one of the worst jobs one could have and yet, he had a great attitude, he saw a future. Of course one has to realistic. This pre-medical student was. He had bills to pay and had to take a horrible job. Medical school is hard to get into and he had to study hard. But despite all, he saw the good where other people could not. While most people see working a toll booth like being in a coffin, he found it as a time to celebrate and be happy.
Happy people tend to succeed. Successful people know what has to be done to do the best job possible and they do it. They do not just do their job they do it with gusto. The most boring job becomes a reason to be happy. Everything they do, is done with pride.

Can you imagine this guy as a medical student and then later as a medical doctor? He would take such pride in every step of the way. Every step towards his goal of becoming a doctor would be meet with happiness and celebration.

Success is about taking pride in what one does. Having a positive attitude even when things are not going well. Keeping your eye on your goal and doing what it takes to get it done. And if upmost importance , getting the proper training and education to be the very best in your field.

Mauro Libi: How to become a successful businessman

Success is a goal we all want to achieve but have no idea how. There are hundreds of stories of men who have achieved success. If we analyze them all, we come to the same conclusion: Wanting to succeed and working  hard is the key.

Experts say that there are several secret to achieve success in what one intends. Some even say that there is a genetic predisposition to being a business winner but more important to succeeding is your attitude, optimism, knowledge generated through a period of preparation while still formulating your decision on a suitable career.

When people possess extraordinary abilities for decision making, which is linked to the stronger emotional intelligence, it goes tummy a better chance of getting what they wants.

Successful people dream big. These dreams turn into ideas. Acting on those ideas can grow into a million dollar business. To go from idea to action, you must have a sense of direction, which can lead to a strategic roadmap. Accept responsibility for all the decisions you make to reach the goal. Fall in love with what you're doing. If you love what your job and you have a passion for it will get you through the hard times while building your way to success.

Remember that everything you do must be bested than good. Being the best at what you do is the hallmark of successful people. Hard work is a key tool to win the victory. No effort should be spared in the process of creation. No negative thought should be allowed to hold you back.  Efforts should be looking for solutions to problems with creative innovative ideas.

When I tell you to work tirelessly in achieving your goal does not mean you become a slave to your job. The key to true success is leading how to balance your life between work, family, play time and health.

A successful person realizes that he is the most important instrument his company has. If he takes care of his health and allows himself some play or fun time, he will be a more productive, happier person. Happy people are more energetic. Their brains work clearer and ideas flow more freely.

A happy family man has less interruptions. Running a business while your personal life is falling apart could never lead to a successful outcome. Neither personally nor in business.

As you get your personal life to be a success it will allow you the time and energy to work at creating the best business company in your field.  Being an expert in your area makes you the best on the market, put emphasis on serving your customers, be honest and learn to prioritize your time to avoid living in chaos. We must make an effort to gain a reputation for efficiency and reliability.

Mauro Libi: How to establish successful business relationships

On many occasions we have discussed in workshops how to build lasting and faithful relationships with customers and suppliers that will last for many years. It is important to note that building relationships are not instantaneous and require constant dedication.

The most important thing is to create and maintain effective communication. Without effective communication there can be no healthy and lasting relationships. We must be clear about the message you want to convey and do it in the most direct way possible.

Satisfying your customers is not enough.  In today's competitive market you have to do more than satisfy. You need to create a fan , a raving fan. A raving fan is a customer that feels that no one else would give them the service as well as you do. They tell all their associates about the care that you have provided and as a result you end off with a lifelong client who refers many other clients to you. To create such a fan in your customers takes much work. This is a win-win. You offer extra work and dedication and you receive a loyal dedicated customer for life. This old  win-win strategy should be the highlight of each office meeting and allow you to establish a strong and lasting base customers that will be key to the success of your  .

Your customers will show gratitude when you hear their changing needs and are willing to compromise on your part and show solidarity with their plans and projects of your customers. Being part of the solution to your customers needs are important to achieve the expected fidelity.

And as always I say the most important of all relationships is the winning attitude, be professional and understand what your strengths are and show them in your actions and deeds.

Really listen to your customers, see their faces, call them and pay attention to details. Remember that your business requires enterprise and productive relationships with clients for which it must develop an effective communication strategy with internal and external audiences, ie, environment is important to the success of your company. Having a successful business is to be a successful entrepreneur.

Mauro Libi: Strong Communication

Communication skills are an important key in your road to success. One of the main reasons that people who get divorced  is that their spouse never really listened to them. The spouse may have listened to your words but did they really hear what you were saying. Business and clients are the same as a marriage in this regard. When your client tells you their concerns or what they want, do you really hear what they are saying? Will your client leave and say - this company really cares and will do the best job for me , I want this company and only this company to do my job.

Strong communication is more than just talking. It is mostly about listening. Arrowhead Management once told a story about a patient that went to a new dentist.  The patient came saying that she needed many crowns. She came to this office because her friend Suzzie had her crowns done in this office and she is so happy with them. Suzzie can not stop bragging about the wonderful job that was done. She highly recommended us to do her friends. Then the new patient asked if we would be making the crowns the same way that Suzzie had them made. What would you answer your potential new patient? She is only here because we did crowns on Suzzie and Suzzie loves them.  So the dentist told her - "of course we will make them exactly the same."
The new patient got up to leave and said , "that's a shame because I hate Suzzie's crowns."

Where did we go wrong? This was a huge case and would have brought us a lot of money and possibly more referrals. Where did we fail? We failed because we did not communicate with the client. When the patient asked us if we would make the crowns like Suzzie, we forgot something. This is not Suzzie in the chair. This is a different person. We should have asked her how she liked Suzzie's crowns. When she told us that she hated them because they were too white or too big. Then we could have told her that we made the teeth exactly how the patient wants them. Everyone is different. At that point, we could have discussed how she would like her crowns and what color and we would have had the case.

You see, we answered this new client how we thought she wanted to be answered. We never asked probing questions to see what she really meant by saying ,"will you make my crowns like Suzzie's." She was saying one thing but we heard another thing because we never communicated.

When communicating with a client. Let them do most of the talking. Ask them probing questions.  See their non verbal communication as well as their verbal communication.

Paraphrase, paraphrase, paraphrase. Say things like , "if I hear you correctly" and then repeat what they said. It's funny how clients when they hear what they just said will tell you that is not what they want.  People do not always communicate correctly and their words that come out is not always what they meant to say. Learn to listen to them really well.  If you see them fidgeting then ask them if there is something in the deal that makes them uncomfortable and when they tell you what it is, then deal with it.

It's always about the money.  Make sure that is all its about when you try to close. Ask you client, " if we come up with a dollar amount that we both are happy with, are you ready to close this deal?" Do not try to close a deal, without discussing all the patients objections. The dollar amount is not as important if they decide that they want your company and no one else. So use your listening skills to see if the deal has been closed before you talk money.

Strong communication means really hearing your client in both their verbal and non verbal cues. A strong communicator will succeed and will excel at what they do.
