Mauro Libi: Socially Responsible Businesses

Now a days, providing a great product and shopping experience will only get you so far. If you really want your customers to keep coming back, you need to let them know that their dollars will be doing some good.

Many businesses recognize the importance of being socially and environmentally conscious, and will often advertise charitable initiatives, such as annual fundraisers for a cause, or a volunteer project their staff worked on. But companies that incorporate social responsibility into their business model prove that a dedication to these initiatives goes a long way, both for the cause and their reputation.

Here you will find an example about companies who play a good role in their communities:

Accessibility Partners – Many people take their computers, smartphones and tablets for granted, but for those with disabilities, using these technologies can present significant challenges. Accessibility Partners works with private and public IT manufacturing companies, federal agencies and other organizations to test and review products that make information technology accessible to individuals with a variety of disabilities. More than 70 percent of the company's employees have disabilities themselves, so the company promotes disability advocacy in all of its operations.

Altered Seasons – Kelly Reddington founded his eco-friendly candle company Altered Seasons in 2003 at age 14 with the help of his mother. When he assumed ownership of the company, he shifted it to a one-for-one model to do more for the community. For every candle sold, Altered Seasons provides a meal to an American in need through Feeding America.

Charitable Agents – Anyone who's sold or purchased a home knows how cutthroat real estate agencies can be about their commissions and fees. But what if you knew that part of that commission was going to support your favorite charity? With Charitable Agents, a network committed to helping homeowners and Realtors make a positive impact in their community, you can do just that. The company matches buyers and sellers with a top-performing local Realtor, and when the transaction closes, 10 percent of the agent's commission goes to charity.

Children Inspire Design – Artist and mother Rebecca Peragine began selling her whimsical wall art, cards and posters to promote environmental education for children. In addition to using recycled materials, eco-friendly inks and biodegradable packaging for Peragine's original designs, Children Inspire Design sells handcrafted paper ornaments made by a women's cooperative in Mexico, and a special poster whose full proceeds go to Future Fortified.

Cole and Parker – This Canada-based sock company does more than just sell colorful footwear. Through its partnership with microfinance organization Kiva, Cole and Parker donates proceeds from every sock sale to a fund that is used to provide small loans for entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Do Good Buy Us – The mission of Do Good Buy Us is to sell "goods that do good." This e-commerce website is dedicated to changing consumerism by selling products made by organizations that support social causes. Additionally, 50 percent of the company's proceeds go toward fighting poverty, hunger, disease and other global issues.

Fashion Project – If you've ever donated some old clothes by dropping them into a public collection bin, you know that it's nearly impossible to discover the impact your donation may have had. Fashion Project, a "re-commerce" platform that allows consumers to donate and shop for secondhand clothes, offers people the opportunity to make a tangible difference with their donations and purchases. Founded in 2012 by entrepreneurs Anna Palmer and Christine Rizk, this company gives up to 55 percent of the net profits from every item sold to the donor's charity of choice.

Gift of Happiness – Donating a portion of your sales to charity is a popular way for retailers to get involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR). Gift of Happiness has put its own spin on this approach, donating 5 percent of every purchase to the listed charity of the customer's choice. But what makes this cause-centric marketplace truly unique is its transparent follow-through: Every charity has a "progress bar," and customers can check back to see how much closer their favorite causes are to reaching their funding goals.

Headbands of Hope – After a life-changing internship at the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jessica Ekstrom decided she wanted to continue helping children with life-threatening illnesses by starting her own business. Her company, Headbands of Hope, sells made-in-the-U.S. headbands and donates a dollar of each sale to childhood cancer research through the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

HERO|farm – Founded by two laid-off advertising executives, HERO|farm is a social mission-focused marketing and design agency whose philosophy is "Do great work for good people." The duo behind HERO|farm made the decision to work with socially responsible companies after realizing how beneficial and impactful advertising can be when a company has an admirable mission. HERO|farm also does at least one pro bono campaign per year for a nonprofit organization.

Image Outfitters – Since its launch in 1998, promotional products manufacturer Image Outfitters has made annual donations to local charities. Last year, the company changed its sales model after seeing how adversely the economic downturn affected these organizations. Through its proprietary platform, iShare, 10 percent of the total sale amount for new customer orders is donated to the charities of the customer's choice.

Juntos Shoes – This ethically conscious fashion startup designed a shoe inspired by traditional Ecuadorean canvas shoes. For each pair sold, Juntos Shoes donates a supply-filled backpack to an at-risk Ecuadorean child to help him or her participate more fully and effectively in school.

Mauro Libi Crestani: What is the vision of your business? Mine is to continue investing in Venezuela

By Mauro Libi Crestani. A young man about asked me.  What the vision of your business?
I replied: "Growing leaders in the grain market to continue investing in Venezuela. In our plant, our facilities, not only in our premium brand of cereal Avelina but in companies related to our sector, we expect to continue our growth, diversify the portfolio and add products to serve our consumers. That is the vision of our business. "

A young man about 24 years old was considering doing business in Venezuela but was afraid to take the risk. Everything changes daily.
It's too risky, he said.

That's when I told him that one of the world's most successful entrepreneurs, Mark Zuckerberg has the following motto: "In a world that is changing really fast, the only strategy where failure is guaranteed is in not taking risks".

When you have a clear vision of the business, take into account that the risks are part of the process, without risk there is no change, the great achievements require taking risks, often very dangerous ones. Our companies have a very clear vision and mission. That is why we are committed to the country and to our growth in the market. We are confident that with our plan of operations, we will gain an increasing market share of the cereal sector.

In Frimaca, creativity is fundamental. We have teams of professionals trained and motivated to succeed. We know the Venezuelan market very well and internationally we have taken our products to countries such as Dominican Republic, Panama and Colombia. Every movement, every action that involves risk involves intelligent and sagacious thought and planning so you can rest assured that we are prepared to compete and come out on top. We will continue preparing to conquer the challenges and adversity of globalization while taking our stand as the absolute best.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Positive advertising in health works ….

“Smoking kills you”

This advertising message really seems to hit home.
You would think that it would get attention and would be very effective. If you do then you are not alone, so did the country France and they ran their own anti smoking campaign.

“Smoking Means Being a Slave to Tobacco”

So was this anti-smoking campaign effective?

The short answer is … Yes, it was.

However, the negative message in these campaigns just was not as effective as a positive campaign would be.
Cornell marketing and nutritional science professor Bryan Wansink, who co-authored the report with University of Vermont nutrition and dietetics professor Lizzy Pope, extended their  research into the area of anti-smoking campaigns, the report argues that a positive message, like “If you quit smoking using this help line, you can save almost $2,000 a year,” would likely be more motivating to its audience than the negative message “Smoking kills you” that is more commonly used.

Cornel University did a study and research.  The review found that negative messages — like “Eat healthy foods or lose years off your life!” — are effective for some audiences, particularly experts like physicians or nutritionists who are already knowledgeable in the field.

However, positive messages pertaining to what someone should be eating and why it is good for them — such as “By eating healthfully, people can gain positive body image or energy” — tend to work better for a general audience that is less knowledgeable about nutrition.

If you’re a parent, it’s better to focus on the benefits of broccoli and not the harms of hamburgers.

As hard as it may seem, the threat of bad health if you do certain things…………….. is not as effective to the average person as the promise of good health if you do certain things.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Nothing succeeds like success

By Mauro Libi Crestani. When looking to increase your company’s productivity, one of the key things that all companies do that seems to work is look for ways to change and improve. While looking for that new idea and concept we must not forget a quote by Oscar Wilde, "Nothing succeeds like success" .

 Was he right?
In a world where ambitious people practice the habits of successful people with mixed results, perhaps he was, at least somewhat. What a businessperson might see in Wilde's statement is this: the key to continued success isn't continually reinventing one's ambitions; it's continually translating the success one already has into new opportunities.

There is an old saying , ‘If something works stick with it,’ .
If you are running a chain of pizza stores and everyone seems to prefer your sauce over everyone else then why would you change the sauce?

If your company offers a personal service that is outstanding and gets you many referrals, - Do not change!

I love the story of Pete Sampress, the famous tennis player. He had a very successful backhand swing using both hands. It made him famous but he was not number one. His backhand swing was successful but was not as successful as if he used one hand on his back swing. Pete’s couch saw anything that was not a number one standing as a failure and he risked it all to change pete’s back swing. Jim Rohn said, “If you are not willing to risk the usual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”  It is up to you to decide if you found the answer to success. If you have stick with it. By the way, if you did not know, Pete Sampress went on to be number one in tennis and the youngest player ever to win Wimbelton.

Companies like Coke-Cola and Pepsi are very successful. People like the taste of their drink. You do not see Coke or Pepsi changing the taste of their drink. They know and believe in Oscar Wilde’s quote "Nothing succeeds like success" .

Not changing a success model does not mean that you allow things to stay stagnant. There is an old business saying that stagnation equals death. Apple Computers has a winning concept of their retail stores that people like. Their stores are always crowded. They offer training and excellent service. That they will never change. The technology of their phones are always changing and they always need to look on how to be the number one  with the latest in technology.  As far as the technology on computers and cell phones that  is changing constantly and they realize that if they did not work at coming out with the latest first, then their competition will take that number one spot, that you need to be aggressive and not lose your competitive edge. So the key is to find out what is the constant success and stick with that. Do not reinvent the wheel, just redesign it.

Steve Jobs from Apple Co. felt that although the Apple retail stores and their service were winners, that their phone did need to be constantly reinvented as he once said…”Apple is going to reinvent the phone and here it is…”.

Mauro Libi Ctestani: “Your employees can be your best social media asset.”

By Mauro Libi Crestani. A company that wants to succeed needs to present to the market place quality goods and services. A company that has that quality product can greatly enhance its sales and image by working on a work ethic initiative.

“You can not be the best place to buy if your not the best place to work.”,  this is a quote by Jay Baer. He gave a talk on social media. Yes, we have websites and we have blogs and twitter and facebook, e-mail advertising, the list goes on and on. Without your employees  telling your customers how wonderful that your company is, then the rest of the social media efforts have little value. “Your employees can be your best social media asset.” An employee who believes in your product and is happy working for your company will tell friends and family and everyone that he or she meets. They will be your best sales person even when they are not working.

Initiatives to increase employee work ethic are widely used by corporations and businesses in attempts to increase profitability and employee morale.

Rewards to encourage a work ethic can take the form of financial remuneration, public recognition and promotion to positions with a higher profile and greater responsibility. Rewards make the employee feel like they are being recognized for their hard work and extra efforts. When the other employees see one of their co-workers get a bonus check for extra work, this has a positive effect on the whole working staff. Everyone wants to do that extra work to achieve a bonus. Reward can be part of a competition goal. Your employees might be offered a job promotion or a bonus or pay raise if they reach a certain goal or sell the most. Healthy and fun competition in the company works.

Punishment is used for poor job performance or for lack of effort on an employee part. It is one of the task that no one likes to do but if an employee does not show on time or slacks off, his co-workers will begin to resent having to work harder than he does and be treated the same. A bad apple has to be dealt with or it will affect the morale of the staff. However, punishment for bad behavior without reward for good behavior will only cause high turnover of good people. So use punishment carefully.

Teaching and encouraging your staff to work as a team can make a big difference. Employees that work together can achieve so much more. When people are part of a team, it often leads to an increased work ethic, both because they don't want to disappoint the other people on the team and because the support of others working on the same project tends to support people and motivate them to greater effort. Mauro Libi Crestani: A positive attitude can make one happy in life

Having a positive attitude can bring one great success. Many writings have proven that. being positive unleashes ones full potential and allows their mind not to be clouded with depression that would block their ability to think clearly and to be creative. I would like to talk about something different today. i would like to talk about a different kind of success.

We have one life to live and we should enjoy our one life. When  was a little boy, one of my teachers tried to teach us a class lesson. She asked us what we want to be when we grow up. Most of us answered either the president or a super rich person. She then asked us if being rich and powerful would make us happy and we all answered YES. At that point she had us read a story called 'the fisher and the sea". It was about an old man that was very happy even though he was very poor and he lived in a shack. One day he caught a magic fish that promised to grant him whatever he wanted if only he would free the fish. The fisherman agreed but he said that he had no wishes. the fisherman was happy with his life. he was very happy. He got to fish everyday and he had no stress. When they fisherman's wife heard what happened, she made her husband ask the fish for riches and power and more and more each day she wanted another wish. She was never happy with what she had.

A positive person knows how to be happy and will be successful in his life regardless of money. That person will know how to dance and sing and enjoy foods and just enjoy life. A negative person will not be happy regardless of what they have. their life will be a failure even if they are successful and rich.

A rich businessman is quoted as saying, "We work like dogs and get paid peanuts. There’s hardly any time for holidays or just to relax in general because you’re always thinking ahead: when the next deadline or meeting is. There is hardly a fair sense of work-life balance here". Sounds like his negativity is making him a failure at life even though by other peoples standards he is a huge success. A street vendor in Paraguay (a country that tied Panama for most positive) said this about her life, happiness and money: "Life is short and there are no reasons to be sad because even if we were rich, there would still be problems. We have to laugh at ourselves."

37 percent of the people on Forbes list of Wealthiest Americans are less happy than the average American. At any given time, one forth of Americans are mildly depressed. Now we find in Latin America, their culture does not accept being negative. They dance, they party, they play sports, they enjoy life, even though most of them live in poverty. A positive attitude can make one happy in life and according to most Americans consider happiness more important to them than money, moral goodness, and even going to Heaven. I happen to agree with that.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Success in life comes from believing in yourself

Napoleon Bonaparte commanded the entire French army at the age of 26. At the age of 30, he engineered a coupod-etat in Paris and declared himself as Emperor of France a few years later. Napoleon's morals were not desirable, what we are going to discuss is how Napoleon's positive attitude made it possible for him to be so successful.

One of his most famous quotes was, " If you want a thing done well, do it yourself." He believed that no one could accomplish a task as well as he could. He had full faith in his talents and intellect. This does not mean that his attitude alone win his battles. He was always prepared, studied the situation and was one step ahead of his opponent.

"Impossible is a word only to found in the dictionary of fools", was another of Napoleon. Going into life with the attitude that something can fail will almost assure failure. General Eisenhower once said, when asked what would have happened if the Allies had been thrown back into the sea when invading Mussolini’s Italy, “it would have been very bad, but I never allowed my mind to think that way”.

Success in life comes from believing in yourself and study and planning very well. “Imagination rules the world." was another of Napoleon's quotes.   All the great achievers have had imagination. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Ghandi, the list goes on and on. To have imagination you first need to believe in yourself. You must have a positive attitude. Negativity closes the mind to clear thinking because the word "I can't" is in your mind and it blocks you from thinking clearly.

Napoleon's positive attitude brought to success but he didn't allow himself to think of the pitfalls. A positive attitude can help you achieve success but it is important to be aware of the bad and adverse situations that you face. You can not allow the negative to cloud your thinking and get you depressed but you can also not ignore it.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Positive attitude can help you to arise your success

Positive attitude is the reason that a country like United States exist. There were times during the revolutionary war when it looked like George Washington was going to lose the war to the British. yet, he persisted and kept a positive attitude. "We should never despair our situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better so I trust it will again. If new difficulties arise we must only put forth new exertions and proportion our efforts to the exigency of the times."
Negative attitude can be so destructive it can destroy one's life and sometimes bring down a country or government. Richard Nixon was paranoid, he believed that people were always out to harm him. This attitude hurt what otherwise may have been considered a great presidency. In 1962 Nixon ran for the California governorship and lost. He made this promise,  "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore..."
When Richard Nixon ran for re election for the presidency in 1972, he won by 20 million votes and 520 to 17 in the electoral college. He won almost every state. Why did Mr Nixon request the Democratic party break in when he had no chance of losing the presidency. He had such  low self esteem and such negative attitude that he could not be assured of victory, even when it was so evident. As a result his government fell and he was the only American President to resign in shame.

Another Republican President Ronald Reagan was called by many, the Positive Thinking Evangelist.  Many in the Republican Party quote and speak of Ronald Reagan as the ideal for their parties ideas. To be finally understood, Reagan must be seen as a product of the positive-thinking movement. Indeed, it was Reagan’s song of the positive—as articulated in thousands of speeches as a conservative activist, California governor, and U.S. president—that, more than any other factor, made the principle of brighter tomorrows and limitless possibilities into the idealized creed of America.

Reagan spoke of American greatness and when he did, people believed him.

Mauro Libi Crestani: An amazing story of Share Value

Share Value can be seen in many areas and in many places. When you give you definitely receive as this story will show.

A long time ago I meet an amazing person. He was a pastor. His church had so many functions for helping about everyone. They had a soup kitchen. They were affiliated with a homeless shelter.  They had a drug rehab center. They offered free family counseling. Low cost to free day care programs. They had a program where they got successful business people to volunteer and give advice to business in the low income surrounding neighborhoods. The church raised money to help people with their rent and for utilities and food. I could go on and on.

I once asked him, how he was able to pay his own churches cost if he was getting people to donate to all these other charities? Seriously, I thought that people will only give so much charity and if the pastor collected for s homeless shelter, then that money otherwise would have gone to the church.

What he told me was very surprising. When he first started as a pastor in that church it didn't have any of these community programs. He tried to get his parishes to donate money and he got very little money. People always had an excuse not to give away their money to the church. He also only saw the church's cost and needs. One day, he saw some homeless people and he saw the real poverty and his heart went out to them. He decided to open a soup kitchen in the church and a homeless shelter. He went to his parishes to ask to donate for this cause. At first people were reluctant to give. So he brought the homeless into the church. The pastor started to change hearts and people started to give. Slowly the pastor's heart changed and he started to see the communities needs and he forgot all about his churches needs. The surrounding community became his community and he became every one's pastor. Everyone went to him for help and to help. The community was learning how to give and care for others.

Now the amazing part, the pastor forgot all about asking for money to cover the church's needs. He didn't have to ask. The community when they learned how to care and to give charity, they just gave to the church without being asked.

You see, when the pastor started to collect for others, his own Church's needs were taken care of.
