Five Steps to an Innovative Solution

Regardless of the size and scope of your company, customer-centered companies looking to innovate for the modern consumer might consider the following approach:

1. Figure out the problem you a’re trying to solve

As with just about any first step, this one is crucial. Make sure you’re trying to solve the right problem and don’t try to provide a fix for something that isn’t a priority in the eyes of your consumer. Do this by asking the right questions and observing, either in focus groups or by evaluating competitive companies, products and their customers.

2. Analyze the problem

In this stage, you want to turn the problem upside down and inside out, extracting every variable and value that causes it (and remedies it). Focus on how often the problem occurs, how severe it is, potential causes, and what if any special circumstances impact it.

3. Classify the decision criteria

Clearly defining the desires that lead to purchase intent, here you want to identify any and every decision that factors into the decision making process. Which of these criteria is most important?

4. Come up with more than one solution

There is no substitute for variety and the goal at this stage is to not leave a more valuable solution on the table. Therefore, don't stop at the first solution you come up with. Instead, evaluate any alternative scenarios as objectively as possible, assessing the pros and cons of each to ensure that the solution you’re pursuing is the most competitive and thereby profitable one.

5. Pick the best solution

After you’ve evaluated all the options and values gleaned from steps one through four, you have to choose the most customer-centric solution to move forward with, developing a base of support within your organization and preparing for any internal or external contingencies.

Mauro Libi Crestani: “The golden rule for every businessman is this: put yourself in the customers place.”

By Mauro Libi Crestani. Categorize Customers can be a very productive and profitable initiative for an office. I was to quote an article called Increasing Sales Productivity By Getting Salespeople to Work Smarter   by Dr. Harish Sujan, Barton Weitz, and Mita Sujan. “While personal selling as a communication vehicle has the advantage of allowing salespeople to treat each customer differently, in practice, salespeople cannot take the time to treat each customer in a totally unique manner.”

“The golden rule for every businessman is this: put yourself in the customers place.” , Orison Swett Marden. People are different and companies are different. If you are trying to sell products to a woman’s boutique shop you may cater your sales pitch on beauty items, on items that would enhance a woman’s looks. If you were selling products to an auto repair shop, your sales pitch might cater to reliability of the product and its longevity.

Once I saw a movie with Mel Gibson. He was a poor salesman and was passed up for a promotion in his company even though he had been with that company for many years. He also was a poor dad who just could not get along with his daughter. His daughter felt that he didn’t care and that he didn’t understand her.  Mel Gibson’s character then had an accident and as a result of that accident  he was able to hear the thoughts going through woman’s minds. As he started to hear what women were thinking he began to realize that his mind was centered around his own wants and needs.  Looking more into the wants and needs of his customers, family and friends, Mel Gibson’s character began to understand that people were individuals and he started  putting in an effort to understand what they were thinking.  The movie ended with him becoming a better salesman, better dad and a better person.

While all customers could be equally profitable, some clients are more profitable than others. By categorizing your customers, you can take the action that’s appropriate for them, identify their marketing and cater to their varying needs while improving your profits. You may break down your customers into general groups, which requires different marketing strategies to reach them. For example, separate customers who want you to come to them from those who are self-service, or group customers with volume accounts versus irregular buyers or standard product buyers versus premium purchasers. Focus on the qualities that make each group unique so that you can obtain the results you want.

Now, you can not be all things to all people. You have to find where your talents are best and it may be best to focus on those customers. It would be nice to sell luxury cars and cheap cars and cater to every type of customers needs. However, you may find it more profitable to sell one brand of cars or type of cars and cater to those customer needs.
Steve Jobs took customer service a step further. He said that you can not just try to understand your customers what they want right now, you have to try to figure out what they will want tomorrow.  By Mauro Libi Crestani.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Negative self esteem or self image will cause you to fail at everything

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself,
Suddenly I'm on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

These words are from a song that describe so many of us.  Here this young man becomes the most powerful person on Earth and he has such a negative self image that he still sees himself as Ioser. Many of us have this innate negative attitude towards ourselves. We feel that either we are not capable or not worthy to succeed or to be special. Negative self esteem or self image will cause you to fail at everything.  Imagine thinking to yourself, " I am going to fail for sure". If you were the boss of a company would you hire someone with that attitude?
Excessive self-criticism tends to backfire, because it leads us to focus on our so-called failures instead of the "small ways that we could haveimproved,".  When you make a comment after a meeting that your talk was stupid and that probably ruined your career. That type of thinking will become true because when you believe that you are a failure then you give up trying to win or to succeed.  And over the long term, studies show, self trash-talk is associated with higher stress levels and even depression.
I once read a book on how to become the President of the Unites States.  The author said that to be president you had to believe with all your heart that you are the best person on the planet to run our country and that without you the country will not succeed.  If you do not believe it then no one else will. Vincent Van Gough once said," if you hear a voice within you saying, you are not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced". Never allow s negative self image stop you. Mohammed Ali was famous for saying , "I am the greatest." Once during an interview he said, " I am the greatest - I used to say that even before I knew I was."  He became the greatest boxer of his tunes because he believed that he was great even before anyone ever heard of him.  Would Ali have become the world heavyweight champion if he didn't believe that he was a champion." All that we are is the result of what we have thought." Buddha.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Good leader has the ability to do great things

A good leader is one who has the ability to do great things. he is very successful at what he does, he may even be the best at what he does. He also knows that he is the best. he believes in his own abilities to succeed and he is a just loaded with positive energy. His attitude toward himself and his attitude toward his job are so positive that everyone around him feels this positive energy and they also feel positive that he will shine at what he does and they know what an asset he is to the company.

Despite all of his wonderful successes and his record breaking wins he is just okey, good at best. he is not a great leader and he will not make a great manager. A great manager is a person that not only has everything we already spoke about but he teaches his coworkers and his employees how to fell like winners also. A good leader has positive energy. A really great leader knows how to transfer that energy to others.

Imagine a football coach that is truly great at what he does, but his team does not believe that they can win. His team believes that couch really knows his stuff but that they do not have the skills to turn couches advice into a win. Now, instead imagine, a football couch that teaches his team the skills they need to use his information. In addition to teaching those skills, he makes them feel all winners. They have the skill and believe that they can win every game.

What this couch did, the couch who is a great leader, was that he transferred his knowledge and skill and his positive attitude to his entire team. Now his players believe that their couch is a genius at game strategy and he has the team to carry out those plays to success and wins.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Never quite, see your self as a winner

There are times when we feel like giving up. It seems like nothing is going our way and that the situation is bleak if not hopeless. It is times like these, it is important to stay positive.

Abraham Lincoln was a chronic depressive. He suffered from depression his whole life. If you see his early life you can understand why. He was born into poverty. He lost eight elections. He failed twice in business. He also suffered a nervous breakdown.

Yet despite all his loses, he never quite. He saw himself as a winner and was always positive. Imagine that, a chronic depressive who had a positive attitude.

After losing a senate race, Abraham Lincoln commented,"The path was worn and slippery. My foot slipped from under me, knocking the other one out of the way, but I recovered and said to myself. It is a slip and not a fall."

After this race, Mr Lincoln went on to become our greatest president.

Abraham Lincoln had his own half cup- half empty saying and it shows his very positive character. "We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses."

Mauro Libi Crestani: Pessimism can lead to hopelessness and failure

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.” Henry ford believed in the power of positive thinking. He believed that your thinking and your attitude affected the outcome. if you had negative thinking and did not believe that you would succeed then you would end off in failure. When you think positively, you will almost always find more solutions. When you are optimistic, you believe there is a solution to be found, and you free your mind to devise those solutions. Pessimism can lead to hopelessness and failure.

“Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain”   was another quote from Henry Ford. When Henry Ford wanted to start his automobile company he met with at least two failures and he lost his investors. They had lost their faith in him, but he did not lose his faith in himself. He had learned from his mistakes and was on his way to amazing success. “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.” , said Henry Ford.. Henry said that his early failures were a blessing. He learned from them, he learned things that he would not have looked for had it not been for his failures.

"In fact, it is a curse to have everything go right on your first attempt." What  a different attitude this quote from Mr Ford expressed than most of us have towards failure. His lesson was not to get overconfident, learn from your mistakes, and as long as you learn they are just a tool toward your final successful goal.

Mauro Libi Crestani: Eke and Kahuna

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” - John Homer Miller.

In an effort to help you develop a positive attitude towards your life and others we will discuss a  wisdom from the Hawaiian Islands - knowledge they refer to as “Kahuna.”

The first concept is called Eke. It is s belief that all changes has to start within yourself. If you want to make changes in your company, with your employees or within your relationship, then first you have to make those changes within yourself. The concept of Eke is that we go from a belief of lacking to a belief  of abundance. If you are lacking in education , then become the most educated in your field. If your company is lacking in innovation and in research and development become the most innovative. If you customers have a lack of enthusiasm towards you and your company, do something to make them the most enthusiastic. If you lack in being an attentive spouse, then become the most attentive spouse. The Eke within you as it becomes more abundant will want to come out and have positive change on the world.

Mauro Libi Crestani: 'Today is going to be the best day of my life'.

Every morning you should wake up and look into the mirror and tell yourself, 'today is going to be the best day of my life'. A quote from Buddha, ' the mind is everything, what you think you become'. Let your mind know that you are serious about making everyday a wonderful, loving , meaningful and happy day, a productive day, a profitable day'. There are so many negative thoughts that run through our mind each day, that we must clear and make room for all our positive thoughts and power. Dr. Dick Barnes, a consultant used to say,' Now that you believe that today will be the best day of your life, start right now finding ways to make that happen'.

Mauro Libi: Share Value initiative help enterprises to affect social changes

A Japanese beer company called Kirin Brewery decided to become part of Shared Value Initiative. They wanted to effect social change. First, they felt that as a company providing alcoholic beverages that they should share the responsibility for drunk driving. So they developed the first non-alcoholic beverage that taste like beer called Kirin-free. Drunk driving in Japan has decreased 63% in the last 20 years and Kirin would like to think that they played a part.

When an earthquake hit in 2011 in Japan, Kirin launched a support program providing six million yen to assist in the reconstruction efforts. They also are using the juice of pears produced in the Fukushima region. This area had rumors after a nuclear accident that were not true that the trees were harmful.

One does not think of an alcoholic company as benefiting society, but as Kirin Co. has  proven with shared valueinitiative, we all can help each other by working together toward a common  .

Mauro Libi Crestani: "if you believe, if you really believe, then you can fly."

Mauro Libi Crestani:
But we had a rule in my neighborhood, when you got in a fight, it wasn’t whether or not you got knocked down. It’s what you do when you get back up. We all have failures. When you have a failure, you have two choices. You could let it get you down and admit defeat. Or you can see the failure as just a step toward success and realize that when you get back up, you will be even stronger. It's a question of attitude.

A person with a positive attitude, will see everything as another step toward his goal and success. It doesn't matter if you have a few bumpy steps in the road, you know they all lead to your chest of gold.

A poor attitude makes a person depressed. When your depressed, it's hard to be creative. It's hard to come up with that great idea that will make you a winner. For a writer, to write his best seller book, for a scientist to discover that great discovery, they need to first believe that could do it. If they believe that they could do the impossible, then they could see things that do not presently exist. To discover the next wonder drug or computer program. It's all a question  of perspective and positive attitude. Peter Pan, an imaginary figure said it best, " if you believe, if you really believe, then you can fly."

Mauro Libi: The image of the company and its management has to be of winners of achievers

Few people can climb the ladder of success without a healthy self-image. High Self-esteem is very important. Would you go to a doctor who had doubts of his own ability? Would you want to trust your business in the hands of someone who had the word loser screaming from his insides? If you want your company to succeed, then yourself and the other members of your management staff have to have a very high self-esteem. The image of the company and its management has to be of winners of achievers. The self-esteem should be so apparent that your clients feel the confidence when they talk to your people. Your clients want to associate with a winning team. If your people believe that they are winners so will your clients.

We mentioned that a successful company is the best at what it does. That its employees are the most highly skilled. They promote the best product on the market. Now that we are the best, it's important never to have any doubts but to believe it. If you are unsure of something, then fix that something. But as far as your clients should see, they can only see a winning team that anyone would want to be a part of.

Self-image means that your management people must show their winning attitude in every way. Their dress must be impeccable. Your company should have a dress code.  They must learn proper eye contact. If the manager is a natural introvert then for the time they spend with a client they must go out of their comfort zone and act the part of a extrovert. Zig Ziglar , the famous success speaker once said that he was a natural born introvert but when on stage he had to become an extrovert. Who wants someone to hear someone talk on stage all shy and all. You can not get the message across that way.

People with high self-esteem and who believe in themselves accomplish a lot more than people with low self-esteem.

I once read a book on success.  It said that to be president of a country or a company, you have to believe that you are the only one that is right for the job. That with you everyone involved will be on their road to success and happiness. If you want your clients to believe in you, then that belief has to start within yourself. Everyone wants to be on that winning team.

Mauro Libi: Working for being a successful entrepreneur

Our goal in life whether it's the way we personally live it or the way we run our company as a entrepreneur is the achieve the extraordinary. Now you may be happy with average but if you want more, if you want your business to surpass the rest, then we will talk about a few hints. These hints have been followed by the exceptional and the most successful in their fields.

A company is made up of individuals. Each individual is part of the whole company aiming for a targeted goal. Each employee or manager is assigned certain tasks to do to achieve that goal. You are really eager to reach your companies potential and achieve it as quickly as possible. Now, here is where you have to be careful.

Our tendency is to assign ourselves and others too many tasks at one time. We brag that we are the best at multi-tasking and all that we achieved. Is it possible to multi-task? Yes, it is. But my multi-tasking you will never achieve that high quality result. You could never achieve that exceptional product or result. Remember, our goal, is to be the best at what we do. The only way to do that is to stay focused. We need to watch over each step and make sure there are no mistakes. If there are mistakes, we will be open about it and correct it. There are no short cuts  on the road to our goal. It is important to do one task at a time. To complete that tasks on time and in a way that will make us stand out.

Eventough, we are very focused on our tasks at hand and we do not deviate from the completion of our task to start another project. Even though we finish what we start, we still need to be careful to be flexible. The market is constantly changing. Our clients also change and have different wants. The market technology advances. The tasks we started may be obsolete before we can even complete it. We need to be vigilant about the changes happening around us and we may have to alter a project that we started. We even may decide to scrap that project because things have changed.

Our projects with the care to make us stand out but when the market changes, we have to learn to be flexible and adapt quickly. Remember, our focus to be the best, to be that extraordinary company. That requires that we are always vigilant and aware.

Mauro Libi: How does one become successful?

How does one become successful? We have spoken in depth that the answer lies in become an extraordinary person and company. Be and produce the very best in your field. To be the very best and truly successful, one must learn time management.

Imagine a car manufacturer telling the public that the new model cars will not be ready on time, so we will sell the old models this year. It may sound funny to us, but to that poor car manufacturer it would probably mean their demise. It is not acceptable. Successful people complete their tasks on time.

Time management is a skill that can be learned. Here are some pointers. Schedule your staff meetings in the morning. It's hard during the day when your managers and staff may have client meetings, phone calls, tasks that they are middle of. They may be stuck at a different locations. During the day or at the end of the day, a staff meeting is not predictable that you can get all the staff to attend. It can really interfere with other tasks. Another reason to have staff meetings in the morning is that everyone's mind is fresh and unoccupied. This is the time of day when ideas can flow freely and the meeting will produce better results.

Schedule blocks of time to answer calls and to get back to calls or to make your calls.  Trying to complete a task while constantly answering the phone is to much of an interference. We already spoke that one should concentrate on one task at a time and not multi-task. Multi-tasking can not allow you to be the best that you can be. Concentrate on your task at hand. Do it right. The call itself needs proper attention and should not be handled while doing other tasks. If you want the call to lead to further success, respect it and allow it it's own time.

Client time is sacred. There should be no interferences of any sort. You want your clients to love you, to become a raving fan, that refers other clients? Then make sure to give them your full attention and time.  One more thing about calls - would you appreciate your salesperson taking a call while talking to you? Seriously!

When a task is started, make sure the time to compete it is reasonable. Allow yourself the proper time to receive products or supplies that you may need.  Think about things that can possibly need extra time. Not allowing yourself enough time to complete a task will greatly increase your anxiety and stress level and leave you with an upset client. Never promise an unreasonable completion time just to get the sale.

Time management is a great tool used by successful people. Done properly your day will flow and run smoothly. It will make your tasks more enjoyable and productive and leave you with very satisfied customers.
